The ongoing coronavirus outbreak poses many challenges for the businesses in many industries. But it also presents a wake-up call for companies that have yet to migrate their operations to the cloud.

Businesses with cloud-based infrastructure have been able to continue to work at full capacity while allowing some – or even all – of their employees to work remotely from home. With the use of collaboration software such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, GotomyPC, etc., team members can communicate with each other and with clients, securely accept and transfer documents and files, and complete the thousands of tasks associated with running a viable business. All while remaining safe and protecting their health.

If you are not “in the cloud” there is no longer an excuse. The way we will all be doing business in the future has arrived in a hurry, and now it is time to catch up.

SumNews, the official publication of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants, recently published my article, “Why CPAs Need the Cloud.” While geared toward those in the accounting profession, the article provides an overview of how the cloud works for many businesses are how it can be used to manage more effectively.
